From Plant Shops to Taco Spots
Coming from the restaurant/service industry and transitioning over into the real estate business, I have found that there are parallels between the two industries and both could not exist without the other. Without real estate we would not have the land to operate a business, and on the flip side, without restaurants & other businesses we would not have the chance to occupy the space of the real estate. Both are needed for success in this society. I came across a street in South Philadelphia that was able to establish an incredible atmosphere where businesses and real estate flourish.
Passyunk Avenue, the street that cuts diagonally across South Philly that’s home to all of these incredible destinations. Whether you're stepping out for a walk with the dog, going out with friends & family, or just doing some window shopping; The “Ave” (as locals call it) is the perfect place for all of these activities.
A spectacle to see is the notorious plant shop known as Urban Jungle, located at 1526 E Passyunk Ave. When you enter, you're instantly smacked in the face with hundreds of plants, ranging in all shapes and sizes. The shop is large and spacious with high ceilings decorated with plants throughout that gives the place that “jungle” feeling. While you're there, make sure to not miss out on their greenhouse located upstairs to get a sneak peek of some plants that aren't on the sales floor. Just make sure you’ve got some extra hands, because leaving with a plant from here is almost inevitable!
Next destination that’s a go-to for those in the area would have to be Los Caballitos Cantina, located at 1651 E Passyunk Ave. One of the best & most unique Mexican spots in all of Philadelphia! It could be midday or midnight, no matter the time, this place is always bustling. The first step into Los Caballitos, whether you're dining inside or outside, will make you feel like you’re in a small town somewhere in Mexico. With their traditional colors, lighting, and music; this is a great place to experience the culture with family and friends. P.s. don’t forget to try the margaritas - the cucumber one is my favorite!
We're finishing off this destination tour of Passyunk Avenue with Philly’s own South Fellini, located at 1507 E Passyunk Ave. This small, quaint, blue and yellow building is unique to say the least, even incorporating Philadelphia’s magic gardens mosaic street art into the facade of the building. South Fellini is a small clothing store that specializes in remixing Philadelphia's iconography into fun parodies and colorful mashups. Whether you're a Philly native or visiting from out of town, South Fellini is a must see. Here you can experience a fun and interesting take on Philadelphia’s traditions and history through their clothing. When you're there, check out the Wawa - Jawn t-shirt, one of South Fellini’s most iconic Philadelphia shirts!
On Passyunk Avenue, when you decide to dine or shop at these destinations you get a small taste of what Philadelphia truly has to offer. Philadelphia, this blue collar, rugged and tough city is filled with different people and cultures and is a haven for small business. On the “Ave” you can see all of this brought to life!
